The Main Floor of the Rotunda is approximately 75’ x 75’.
Room surfaces consist of marble floors, stone and glass walls and plaster dome.
Entry to Rotunda via Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place and Van Ness Avenue vestibules.
The landing on the Grand Staircase is 4’0” above the Main Floor level and is 4’6” deep and 20’0” wide.
Rotunda capacity (including the Second Floor) ranges from 652 at seated dinners to 1,300 for standing receptions.
The North Light Court is approximately 122’6” x 57’5” clear floor area with 19’ to 22’ ceilings.
Free standing historic counters run along the north walls of the space.
Room surfaces consist of marble floors, area rugs, stone and glass walls and a glass skylight ceiling with wood and plaster cornices.
Entry to the North Light Court via the Rotunda and Van Ness Street.
North Light Court capacity ranges from 435 at seated dinners to 870 for standing receptions.
The South Light Court is approximately 122’6” x 57’05” gross floor area with 19’ to 22’ ceilings.
Room surfaces consist of marble floors, wall to wall carpet, stone and glass walls and a glass skylight ceiling with wood and plaster cornices.
Entry to the South Light Court via the Rotunda or Grove Street vestibule.
South Light Court capacity ranges from 320 at seated dinners to 840 for standing receptions.
The Second Floor (Balconies)
Capacity for the Second Floor ranges from 300 at seated dinners to 640 for standing receptions.
The Fourth Floor (Galleries)
Capacity for the Fourth Floor ranges from 200 at seated dinners to 300 for standing receptions.
Maximum occupant load for standing receptions is 3,014 persons. Events with occupant loads exceeding the maximum will require Fire Department approval and/or Fire Inspection standby during event.

Freight Elevator Dimensions and Capacities
Three freight elevators are located at the ground level service City Hall and exit into the Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place vestibule on the Main Floor. Each elevator is 6’02” by 4’05” and can accommodate 2,000 pounds of equipment. One hydraulic elevator located in the North Light Court is accessed from the ground level near the McAllister Street vestibule. This elevator exits near the kitchen preparation area in the North Light Court. This elevator is 6’06” by 4’02” and can accommodate 2,500 pounds of equipment.

San Francisco City Hall is equipped and monitored by complex fire alarm systems which include smoke, heat and linear beam detectors. In the event the fire alarm system activates during an event, all “event power” is disabled. Re-setting “event power” can only be accomplished by the City Hall Building Engineers.
