Taking BART or other Public Transportation:

Parking:

Metered parking is available on Van Ness, McAllister, Grove, and Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place. A CityPark underground parking lot is located on McAllister, between Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place and Larkin. For driving directions, please see the directions listed below, or visit Google Maps.

Directions from the South Bay:

Take U.S. 101 north towards San Francisco. Take the U.S. 101 North/Duboce Ave./Mission Street exit. Keep right at the fork in the ramp. Turn Right onto Mission Street. Turn slight left onto Van Ness Ave. Turn right onto McAllister, right onto Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place.

Directions from the East Bay:

Take Interstate 580. Exit onto Interstate 80 West towards San Francisco, After crossing the Bay Bridge, take at the 9th Street/Civic Center exit. Keep right at the fork in the ramp. Turn left onto Harrison Street, then turn right onto 9th Street. Turn slight left onto Hayes Street, then turn right onto Van Ness Ave. Turn right onto McAllister, right onto Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place.

Directions from the North Bay:

Take U.S. 101 south towards San Francisco. Cross the Golden Gate Bridge, and merge onto U.S. 101 South (Lombard Street). Turn right at the intersection of Lombard and Van Ness, onto Van Ness Ave. Turn left onto McAllister, right onto Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place.

City Hall's official address is 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place, San Francisco, California, 94102. The block of Polk Street in front of City Hall were renamed Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place in honor of Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett, the late local civil rights leader, community activist, physician and publisher. Dr. Goodlett was the publisher of the Sun Reporter newspaper, and served as the president of the San Francisco branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. The official renaming ceremony took place on the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr's birthday, January 18, 1999.
